Data published in the Migration Bulletin on Friday (10) shows that Brazil welcomed 180,507 migrants of various nationalities between January and November 2024. In November alone, the number of entries was 17,175 people. The survey was published by the National Justice Secretariat (Senajus).
Among the migrants, many remain in Brazilian territory with temporary or permanent permits, while others live in border areas, maintaining links with neighboring countries. Currently, almost 2 million foreigners officially live in Brazil.
In addition, the report revealed that, in the same period, Brazil received 62,388 requests for refuge, with 5,944 requests made in November alone. Of these, the National Committee for Refugees (Conare) recognized 13,340 people as refugees. Most of the applications were made by migrants from Cuba and Venezuela, claiming persecution related to race, religion, nationality, political opinions, serious human rights violations or armed conflicts.
